Our Positive School Environment Team, PSET, continues to work hard to build and improve upon all of the great Peru Pride initiatives we have built over the years with the end goal of creating a positive school climate for all. Students have heard me affectionately refer to this as creating the #BestSchoolEver.
To achieve this goal, we have increased Peru Pride assemblies to monthly community gatherings where we will focus on an individual character strength. Research shows, that the seven character strengths are, “highly predictive of lives that are engaged, meaningful, and purposeful” which is what we want for all of our students. Just like in math, ELA, music, or sports we can improve upon our character strengths through various learning activities. Over the course of the school year, we will learn and improve upon the strengths of: self-control, gratitude, curiosity, zest, grit, social intelligence, and optimism.
As a way to increase student leadership and to foster a deeper understanding of the strengths, students will be given the opportunity to highlight the Character Strength of the month, in a presentation of their choosing, at our Peru Pride Assemblies.
