Position Overview:
The Peru Central School District is seeking an experienced, energetic, innovative, and outcome-oriented district leader for
the role of Director of Student Services. The selected candidate will oversee and support all aspects of a comprehensive
pre-school, elementary and secondary program for students with disabilities, ensuring full compliance with Federal and
State Regulations. Additionally, the Director will oversee the District’s health services, including managing the District’s
nurses and serving as the liaison between the District’s Medical/Student Health Service Provider and nursing staff.

Responsibilities May Include:

  • Leadership in Education: Promote the success of every student by leveraging classroom teaching experience,
    building positive relationships with families and staff, and designing and providing professional development for
    teachers and administrators. Display extensive knowledge of inclusive practices. Engage in continuous learning of
    best practices for education.
  • Program Management: Plan, organize, and direct the implementation of special education and student support
    services programs for PK-12 students, including the coordination of Out-of-District Special Education Placements
    and expanding the CPSE programs/services to run in district.
  • Oversee and Chair meetings for the Committees on Special Education (CSE), Section 504 Plans, and the
    Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE) to ensure appropriate services are provided to all eligible
    students.
  • Oversight of TOSA: Supervise the Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA) for 504 and CPSE programs, ensuring
    effective support and implementation of these programs.
  • Oversee the Special Education Coordinators and 504 coordinators as communications liaisons and support for
    program implementation.
  • Staff Evaluation: Perform evaluations of K-12 staff, providing constructive feedback and support to foster
    professional growth and enhance the effectiveness of educational and support services.
  • Curriculum and Instruction: Utilize solid knowledge of curricular and instructional trends and best practices
    related to Special Education, including familiarity with NYS Learning Standards, IDEA, and MTSS.
  • Grant Oversight and Implementation: Oversee and implement NYSED Grants, including IDEA 611, and IDEA
    619, ensuring compliance with grant requirements and effective use of funds.
  • Medicaid Billing: Manage Medicaid billing processes to ensure accurate and timely submission of claims and
    adherence to all relevant regulations. Ensure forms and scripts are current.
  • Student Services: Demonstrate expertise in the identification, diagnosis, planning, programming, placement, and
    assessment of students with disabilities. Understand the function of student behavior and oversee the development
    of successful behavior plans. Support crisis intervention training and strategies (TCIS).
  • Medical Health Administration: Oversee the District’s nurses, ensuring the delivery of high-quality health services
    to students. Serve as the liaison between the District’s Medical/Student Health Service Provider and nursing staff,
    facilitating communication and ensuring that all health-related protocols and procedures are followed. Oversee
    student health plan creation and implementation.
  • Manage the hiring and assignment of aides for students with disabilities in the district.
  • Communication Skills: Exhibit outstanding verbal, written, and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with
    all stakeholders.
  • Prepare monthly and annual reports for the Board of Education.
  • Work with NYS for creation of program plans implementation and school improvement plans.
  • Oversee and submit accurate data to the NYS School business portal.
  • Other duties per contract

Qualifications:

  • Education: Master’s Degree in Education, including coursework in educational leadership/administration.Certification: New York
  • State SDL or SDA Certification required.
  • Experience: A minimum of five (5) years of successful experience as a teacher, with work experience in
    educational administration or leadership. Preference is given to candidates with three (3) years of experience as a
    Building or District Leader in Special Education.

Compensation:

  • $95,000 – $115,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

  • September 24, 2024
